Post class reflections
Date 7/15/2020 (Week 1)
We were having our virtual online classes due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. With great excitement and eagerness to learn something the teacher scheduled a google meet for an hour class. The meet was very convenient for most of us with stable WiFi connections and some using data packs. The online classes are not like our usual class so some technicalities came our way which wasted almost 10 minutes of our time. The teacher made us present in groups on various topics. It was the first day of our group presentation where my classmates Ayam and Nirbhaya presented about the Toulmin's model. The class was pretty effective with the presentation alone. They made a very good power point presentation on the topic as advised by the teacher. As our class was short only for about an hour we couldn't do much and we only studied for about 40 minutes excluding some problems which consumed our time. The class started around 1 P.M. and ended sharply at 2 P.M.. Most of our time was consumed by presentation and then followed some questions and answers. The queries of some students were also answered by the teacher as well as the presenters. Then the teacher said some words about the presentations like giving advice, suggestions and requests.
The teacher also explained about the topic of presentation on his own. It helped us understand the topic much better from teacher's perspective. I learned about the Toulmin model and its various steps on writing it. I was attentive throughout the class which helped me learn and understand better.
Date 7/22/2020 (Week 2)
With the start of the classes virtually and virtual presentations, our second presentation was also on Technical Communication. The second presentation was on "Project Proposal Writing", which is in fact one of the important topics for us engineering students.
Project proposal is known as a document about a project that has to be explained to the outside contributors in order to get their approval for the project which can be mainly for their financial support or can be for academic purpose. Being in the engineering field, we can have many projects and we have to prepare many proposals in order to get financial support or get approval of the company for the work to get started. The presentation went smoothly without any hindrances. The whole class was silent throughout the presentation and finally after the end of the presentation they started taking questions from the audience. I also asked a question relating to the topic in the chat box. The whole class was very helpful and was completed without any problems.
Date 7/29/2020 (Week 3)
With a week of gap we were back to our ENGT classes. The technical communication part was still ongoing. Lets be honest, only one thing is pretty boring. But out teacher did slip in some new topics today. We were taught about acrostic poem, being a new topic but was pretty easy and fun.
I wrote one tooRadiant
Able
Jesting
Authentic
Regular
Attentive
Motivated student
All started writing their own versions and sharing in the chat box. Only then we started our regular presentation. There were two presentations today, "Scientific Journal Articles" from technical communication and "To Know a Fly" by Vincent Dethier from golden flax tales. The Scientific Journal articles presentation was simply about the steps for it whereas "To Know a Fly" was made with Toulmin's Model giving us various arguments and reasons. Overall the class went quite well and smoothly.
Date 8/05/2020 (Week 4)
As usual our class was conducted with full of excited people and fresh minds in the morning. The class would go as usual with presentation. Again our teacher taught us about Diamante poem at the beginning as a part from getting away from boredom. We all were directly involved in this activity so it was very fun. Here's one
Love
Adorable Bliss
Feeling Living Believing
Emotion Tenderness Affection Delight
Yearning Devoting Caring
Angel Loyal
Hate
Today we had three presentations, "Memo Writing" from technical communications, "Swan Song" and "The Four-Tusked Elephant" from golden flax tales. This was probably one of the most interesting classes with the increase in literature part of the presentation. “The Four Tusked Elephant”, which was about the research about the writer on the four tusked elephant. There were many interactions about the topic on how the essay ended in uncertainty as to if the writer found the four-tusked elephant or not. "Swan Song" was a drama by Anton Chekov where the protagonist reminisces his past activities and reviews his entire life. In this way one of our most interesting class came to a perfect end.
Date 8/05/2020 (Week 5)
Our classes continued to get more and more interesting with the entrance of the literature part. But this time there were two technical communication presentations on "Incident reports" and "lab reports". The class was short and fun.
It was expected to be a boring class. But our friends presented "Incident reports" very fluently and full of sarcasms too which was pretty interesting to listen to. Anish Manandhar did a great presentation on his part. After few questions and answers from the audience, the next presentation begun.

Next was "Lab report" which we thought were pretty familiar with but turns out we weren't. It was kind of different than what we thought. The presentation was short and ended quickly with some audience interaction.
After both the presentation came to an end, teacher called out next set of presenters as we had still lots of time left. But none of us were ready yet. So the class got quite interesting on its own as many started presenting their own poems. Two of them were great English visual poems by Anurag and Aayam. There were also some Nepali poems. In this way so thought boring class came to an interesting end.

Science In The Eyes of An Ordinary Person
We, the people of 21st century, have profound knowledge and understanding of the world and universe we are in. After gathering incalculable amount of ideas, theories, prospective, analysis, understandings etc. that our brilliant forefathers, of the world’s history, have given us, we’re at such stage of human civilization that today’s genius minds can make absolute use of those contributions to understand and comprehend the universe & beyond that are still left to be scrutinized.
All the things that we have attained up to now are nothing but the blessings of science, which is the only best method to understand the way our world/universe is. The word ‘Science’ came from the Latin word “to know”(Wikipedia). Assuredly, science is the study of everything (to know about the world better) and, in order to figure out the truth, we need science. But in the eyes of an ordinary person science is a complex form full of theories and formulas
Well! If not just theories and formulas, then what? The question might arise. But we have answer too (wink). To begin with, to those people making aforementioned statement, I want to assert that “formulas and theories” don’t merely constitute science. Science is NOT a body of knowledge, per se, but a process of determining the truth. Even though science contains theories and formulas, the huge portion of it contains foundational knowledge, rational discourse, educated hypothesis, objective testing, and peer review. It is as the result of this process from which theories and formulas arise. Furthermore, besides ‘theories & laws’ lie profound ruminations, meticulous observations and impeccable experiments.
We, in science, start with observation, from which we formulate a hypothesis, and then gather empirical data through experiments. If data yields consistent results, we might formulate a law. If we organize all data into an equation or set of postulates, we have a theory. Science needs magnificent mind to think/analyze the observations; it is after going through fruitful rigorous process that we finally get theories/laws.
All in all, science is really a broad field of knowledge and understanding. Science is the art that explains the working phenomenon of the whole universe. From as small as an atom to as large as galaxies and universe, from beautiful nature to horrifying disasters, from smallest organisms to largest (i.e. whales), from large computers to small phones, science explains all of it, and science is related in all of it. Science is hard, it is fun and it is also easy. For most, it becomes hard when it contains numbers and formulas, it becomes easy when you understand it, and it becomes fun when theories match practice. To get a life and tasting even a morsel of any field is the heaven-like experience. If you, ever in your life, look at the science out of just ‘theories & laws’, it is more beautiful than heavenly angels. My remark to those people thinking science as ‘a compilation of theories and laws’ is that ‘you missed magnificent beauty of science; it’s way lot more than you’re thinking.’
